Forward Victor Osimhen may sit out Nigeria’s upcoming friendly matches against Ghana and Mali.
Despite being named in the 27-man squad unveiled nine days ago, Napoli are hesitant to release the player due to concerns over his fitness.
Reports suggest that Napoli are concerned about Osimhen’s ongoing muscle complaints, and will communicate their decision to the Nigeria Football Federation.
Osimhen, who recently watched Napoli’s Serie A clash against Inter Milan from the bench, was reportedly rested due to muscle issues, as confirmed by Napoli’s coach Francesco Calzona.
With Napoli aiming to nurse Osimhen back to full fitness for their upcoming game against Atalanta, skipping the international break could expedite his recovery process.
Since his return to Napoli after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, Osimhen has showcased impressive form, tallying five goals and an assist in six matches.
