Former Nigerian international Peter Rufai has praised Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen, highlighting the qualities that set him apart from his peers whenever he represents the national team.
The reigning African Footballer of the Year has been a consistent force for both club and country, delivering crucial goals since his debut in June 2017.
His presence on the pitch is often a game-changer, and his absence due to injury leaves a noticeable void, particularly in the energy and drive he brings to the team.
Osimhen’s numbers speak volumes. With 23 goals and 11 assists in just 39 appearances for the Super Eagles, he has climbed to second place on Nigeria’s all-time goalscorers list. Despite this, Nigeria has often struggled to replicate his attacking impact in his absence.

Rufai believes Osimhen’s unrelenting hunger for goals and unwavering commitment to excellence distinguish him from other players.
“When Osimhen comes into a team, he makes a difference,” Rufai said.
“It is not like the other players do not have their impact; they also make their impact. But don’t forget in life that to be a champion, you just have to give everything, and that is an area where Osimhen is doing very well.
He’s always hungry for goals and ready to give his best whenever he is called upon to represent the Super Eagles.”
Rufai also acknowledged the challenges faced by other strikers when stepping into Osimhen’s role, especially during high-pressure matches.
“Other players that play in the same position with him may experience a bad day, and the fact that the match is important to the fans, that player that doesn’t function happens to be in the spotlight,” he added.
Osimhen has also been in scintillating form for his club this season, tallying eight goals and four assists in just ten appearances across all competitions a testament to his exceptional ability and consistency.
