Nigerian forward, Cyriel Dessers has reflected on the tough realities of being a striker, revealing the scrutiny he faces at Rangers and why he’s yet to break into a bigger league.

Since his transfer from Genk last year, Dessers has become one of the most scrutinized players at Rangers.

Despite the criticism, the Nigerian forward has posted respectable stats, with 23 goals and nine assists across 54 appearances.

However, expectations at Ibrox are high. Many fans anticipated a more clinical striker, leading some to call for a new signing to elevate the club’s attacking quality.

For Dessers, missing chances is simply part of a striker’s job.

He noted that every striker misses chances pointing out that the high standards fans hold often disregard the inherent difficulty of converting every opportunity.

“I was watching the Champions League this week and I see unbelievable strikers miss chances. So who am I as Cyriel Dessers not to miss chances?” he said in a video shared by Rangers Review.

“Obviously, you’re going to miss more than you score, that’s the life of a striker. You know that there will always be a perception about that.

“If I could score three chances every game, I would probably not be at Rangers.”

This season, Dessers has managed nine goals and three assists in 19 appearances.

Despite these contributions, the 29-year-old continues to face criticism, particularly for his tendency to miss key scoring opportunities.
