Fulham manager Marco Silva has showered praise on Super Eagles midfielder Alex Iwobi, highlighting his exceptional versatility and growing influence in the Premier League this season.
Iwobi, 28, has been a key figure for Fulham, seamlessly adapting to various roles under Silva’s guidance.
His ability to excel in multiple positions was on full display during Fulham’s 2-1 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion, where he played as a defensive midfielder.
Speaking after Fulham’s recent 1-1 draw against Arsenal, Silva underscored the Nigerian’s importance to the squad:
“Firstly, he’s a really important player for me because he’s really versatile. He can play in many different positions.
I can move him in one football match without making many changes. Last night [against Brighton] was a good example, he played in three different positions,” Silva told Sky Sports.
Silva also commended Iwobi’s attacking contributions, noting his improved decision-making in the final third:
“He’s adding something to his game and he’s improving in the attack. The decisions in terms of assists and goals, he’s adding really in a very good way for his game, and we are delighted about it.
What an incredible season it’s been for him. To be honest, it doesn’t surprise me. We felt as a staff, Alex had the same feeling for sure and his teammates too.”
Iwobi’s stellar performances this season have come as no surprise to Silva, who expressed confidence in the midfielder’s potential during pre-season preparations.
“The way he started the season, the pre-season matches, the way the first Premier League matches [went], you start to feel, ‘Ok, he’s going to be even better than the season before” Silva said.
“We are going to have Alex with all the talent that he has inside himself, the potential that he has inside himself, he’s going to put everything outside this season.”
With five goals and three assists so far, Iwobi is enjoying one of his most productive campaigns yet, solidifying his place as a vital player for Fulham.
