Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong has expressed confidence in the team’s ability to go all the way at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.
Reflecting on their experiences from the 2023 edition, the skipper believes Nigeria has gained the necessary experience to conquer the continent this time around.
The Super Eagles face a challenging group stage draw, where they will battle Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania under new head coach Eric Chelle.
These matchups will test the team’s resolve as they aim to advance to the knockout rounds.
Speaking to NFF TV after the draw held on Monday, Troost-Ekong emphasized the importance of respecting all opponents while working hard to prepare for the competition.
“Very excited to see the new group,” Ekong said. “Three teams that need to be respected. There is no such thing as easy games in Africa. But I believe we have everything in our team to come out of this group and, this time, go all the way.”
Reflecting on the lessons learned from the 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire, where Nigeria finished as runners-up, the captain said:
“We learnt so much last year, but this time we will be more ready. We’ll work hard throughout the year to make sure everyone is fit and ready under the new coach.”
Troost-Ekong also noted that the team’s focus is on maintaining discipline and respecting their grou-stage opponents.
