Following the release of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations draw, Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has stated his team’s clear intention to claim the title at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.
The three-time African champions have been drawn in Group C alongside Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania for the tournament in Morocco. Despite the challenge posed by these teams, Chelle is confident that Nigeria can contend for the title.
“Yes, it’s going to be difficult to win because there are 24 very good teams and some very good coaches,” Chelle told CAF Online.
“I know I’ve got a team that’s out for revenge, and I’m out for revenge too, so we’re going to have a lot of fun.
“We know what this team is capable of, and our goal is clear—to lift the trophy in Morocco.”
Nigeria will open their AFCON campaign against Tanzania in Fez on Tuesday, December 23.
While the Super Eagles boast a strong history in the competition, with three titles (1980, 1994, and 2013), Chelle knows that no opponent can be underestimated.
Tunisia, a long-time rival, knocked Nigeria out in the round of 16 at AFCON 2021, adding extra tension to their upcoming clash.
Uganda, making their eighth tournament appearance, and Tanzania, featuring for only the fourth time, will both be eager to cause an upset.
With 16 AFCON medals more than any other nation in tournament history, Nigeria will be expected to progress from the group.
The tournament is scheduled to take place from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.
