Nigerian Billionaire, Aliko Dangote has vowed to return with a better offer to Arsenal’s majority shareholders and has laid out plans to replace Manager Arsene Wenger if his acquisition of the club succeeds.
According to reports in the British media, Dangote is keen to return with an offer to both Stan Kroenke and Alisher Usmanov in a bid to take over as the highest shares and force a replacement for manager, Arsene Wenger.
Both men hold the largest shares at Arsenal; Kroenke currently owns 67 per cent of the club but insists he has no intention of selling up.
Usmanov, who has a 30 per cent shareholding, launched a takeover bid in May — offering the American $1.3bn to sell his shares, but was rebuffed.
[h/t Mirror] in a quote credited to Dangote on Bloomberg, the Richest Man in Africa said, his first decision as owner will be to change the Coach, Wenger.
“The first thing I would change is the coach,” Dangote told Bloomberg.
“He has done a good job, but someone else should also try his luck.”
Dangote also believes he would be able to tempt both billionaires into doing business.
“If they get the right offer, I’m sure they would walk away,” he said.
“Someone will give them an offer that will make them seriously consider walking away.
“And when we finish the refinery, I think we will be in a position to do that.”
