If it ain’t broken don’t fix it! that will be the mantra as Sam Vincent hopes to keep his victorious D’Tigress together for the 2018 FIBA Women’s Cup, Team Manager Mfon Udoka has hinted.
Nigeria dethroned Senegal in the 2017 Women’s AfroBasket final on Sunday to clinch their third title but there won’t be drastic changes made to the roster Udoka has told brila.net
D’Tigress charged to a spirited victory to seal the championship title with 65-48 points win against the 11-time champions as well as walk away from Mali with a world cup spot.
With expectations for the Sam Vincent team heightened, Udoka, who inspired Nigeria’s 2005 Women’s AfroBasket triumph, insists a bulk of the team will be retained with only a few additions expected.
” For now we’re just going to enjoy what we’ve accomplished, it has been been 12-years since it happened. It was a long time and it’s long overdue.
“But I think for Spain, we have to not necessarily, drastically change our team, because I really like the team, but we do need some size inside,” she explained.
“So, now we’ll be looking for a Center maybe another power forward, someone who wants to play with their back to the basket, height is always good.
“So I think that is what we’ll be on the look out for more than anything,” the former D’Tigress player concluded.
Nigeria will return to the world cup in 2018; the second time only and over a decade since D’Tigress debuted at the championship.
Spain have been selected as host of the 18th edition of the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup. 16 nations will compete under the renamed competition.
