Super Eagles assistant coach Daniel Ogunmodede has declared the squad is fully prepared for their 2024 African Nations Championship, CHAN qualifier against Ghana’s Black Galaxies.
The CHAN Eagles will face their West African rivals in a two-legged tie this month, with Nigeria aiming to avenge their previous defeat and secure a place in the tournament.
Ghana denied Nigeria qualification for the last CHAN edition hosted in Algeria, and the upcoming clash provides an opportunity for redemption. The competition will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Both nations will battle for a place in the next CHAN tournament, which will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
Speaking to NFF Media, Ogunmodede, who doubles as the coach of Remo Stars, stressed that the team is focused on the present and determined to make a mark.
He highlighted the players’ awareness of the stakes involved and their commitment to giving their best
“The team is not thinking about the past, what is important now is the present and also looking at the future.
We all know what is at stake including the players. We are giants of Africa, we know what it means to us to play at the CHAN,” Ogunmodede said.
“Ghana will have the confidence they knocked us out twice in the past. I think things will be different this time around.”
Ogunmodede also shed light on the selection process for the squad, explaining how the technical crew came up with the list of invited players.
“Everybody deserve a chance here, we are all privileged to be here. In my opinion, every time you have a first X1, there will always be a player complaining, same thing with this scenario,” he explained.
“We have to call 30 players among the large numbers in the league, they are all deserved to be here.”
In an exclusive interview with Brila FM, Ogunmodede revealed that the squad will be reduced to 18 players before they travel to Ghana.
Nigeria, having missed out on the last two CHAN tournaments in 2021 and 2023, is determined to end the streak of disappointments and secure their place in the prestigious competition.
The stakes are high, and the CHAN Eagles are ready to rise to the challenge.
The first leg of the qualifiers is scheduled for Sunday, December 22, at the Accra Sports Stadium, while the return leg will take place on Saturday, December 28, at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
