We ‘ve learnt our lesson despite early exit at AFCON 2019 – Tanzania Coach Amunike

Coach of the Taifa Stars of Tanzania, Coach Emmanuel Amunike has stated that he and his players would take home a lot of positives from their participation of this year’s AFCON, qualifying the team for this year’s edition after 39 years being absent.

Tanzania lost all three of their group stage matches, first losing 2-0 to Senegal, 2-3 to Kenya in their best display at the finals while they lost 3-0 to Algeria in their final group match.

Speaking with brila.net, Amunike said the experience, as well as the lesson, are an eye opener for him and his players as a lot of work still needs to be done for them to compete against the best teams on the African continent.

“Being part of this AFCON 2019, we lost our three games but for me, it’s an experience while for the team, it’s a lesson, it’s an experience, this is an eye-opener to see that there is a lot more work to be done so that we can compete and be in a better position”.

“Every journey has its own story, and so it would be a big privilege to qualify for the next AFCON, every journey has its own challenges and stories. The good thing is that we came here and we have seen that we need to do more to compete with the rest of Africa”.
