Ghana Head coach, Otto Addo has expressed a strong desire to secure his first-ever win over Nigeria, revealing that he is eager to end his winless streak against the Super Eagles.
Since his appointment as Ghana’s head coach, Addo has faced Nigeria three times—twice during the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying playoffs, which ended in draws, and again in March 2024, when Ghana suffered a 2-1 defeat in a friendly match.
The German-born tactician is now determined to finally claim a win over the West African rivals.
“Yeah, I’m really excited. Actually, the last friendly we lost 2-1, so we really, really want to beat them. I know about the rivalry.”
Addo acknowledged the emotional and historical weight the fixture carries for both nations, especially in countries like England, where there are large Nigerian and Ghanaian communities.
“It’s not only in England, but I think England has a very, very huge community of Nigerians and Ghanaians. So, but it’s everywhere. And yeah, it’s very, very important.”
“We Are Trying to Do Everything to Win This Game”
Despite Ghana’s mixed form in recent outings, Addo sees the Nigeria clash as a potential turning point for his team’s confidence and connection with the fans.
“These games, even, I mean, we had recent good results, but in general, even if you have bad results, these are the games where you can get the fans back on track.”
“And so I know the importance of these games. And like I said before, we are trying to do everything to win this game.”
The Black Stars will be eyeing a statement victory when they face Nigeria in the upcoming Unity Cup.
