Kenneth Omeruo praised Super Eagles strong mentality after battling to a 3-2 win over Sierra Leone in their Africa Cup of Nations Qualifier in Monrovia at the weekend.

Omeruo captained the team to a 3-2 win over Sierra Leone at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium, on Sunday.

The victory did not come without a glitch as the Leone Stars cancelled out Victor Osimhen’s early brace with goals from Mustapha Bundu and Augusto Kargbo.

Leicester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho however netted the winning goal for Jose Peseiro’s side deep into stoppage time, sending the three Champions to 2023 African Cup of Nations.

“Concentration is very important. The game would have died in the first half. ” Omeruo said.

” There was a very clear penalty that was not given. That would have killed the game. But, still, we must always stay focused until the end.

“It was a difficult game; we knew they were going to fight because it is the only opportunity they have to qualify. But, I am happy we kept our heads until the end, and we were able to win the game, so I am happy,” the Stand-in Captain added.

The Super Eagles will face Sao Tome and Principe in the final game of the qualifiers.
