We fought till the end! Onome Ebi proud of Super Falcons despite WAFCON Semi-final heartbreak

Super Falcons Captain Onome Ebi vowed that the team will keep going stronger, despite failure to retain their African title in Morocco.

Nigeria lost to hosts Morocco in a well contested semi-final at the Stade Prince Moulay-Abdellah on Monday.

The Falcons played 50 of the 120 minutes with nine woman and forced the game into penalties, before bowing 5-4 to their hosts.

They took the lead in the 62nd minute after Yasmin Mrabet put the ball into her own net following some brilliant effort by Rasheedat Ajibade.

The Atlas Lioness however, restored parity eight minutes later Mssoudy Sanaa slammed home the equalizer.

The Falcons nearly regained their lead in extra-time when Gift Monday’s snap shot hit the woodwork.

The game eventually went into penalties and Rita Chikwelu scored the first kick for the Super Falcons and was followed by the miss by Onumonu.

Otu Obianang, Plumptre Ashleigh Megan and Gift Monday converted their kicks perfectly but it was not enough as Morocco converted all of theirs.

Reacting to the outcome, Ebi who led the team, hailed the team’s fighting spirit and added that they’ll bounce back stronger.

On social media she wrote:

All I have to say to this amazing team is that I am super proud of us all. We lost the game but we fought till the end against all odds.

Super Falcons we remain unstoppable. Thank you all for standing with us, we keep going stronger.

Nigeria will face Zambia in the third place play-off match against Zambia at the Stade Mohammed V, on July 22.
