We don’t have to play well, we just have to win – Mikel Obi

Victory tomorrow for Nigeria is so vital that skipper Mikel Obi has made it clear the Super Eagles will not be bothered if they had to play ugly but still pick all three points at the expense of Cameroon.

Nigeria top group B with six points from two matches, four points clear of second-placed Cameroon.

A home win tomorrow in Uyo will put the Eagles in pole position to be the team for Russia 2018 ahead of Cameroon, Zambia and Algeria.

Mikel said the result and not how it is achieved will be top priority for his team against Cameroon tomorrow.

“We all know what is at stake. We want to go the world Cup. There is no easy way of doing that, we have to win games and we can’t play well every game.

“A win is a win, we want to win on Friday, and that will give us an added advantage in the qualifiers,” Mikel Obi said.

“We want to qualify for the World Cup and we are ready to do that. It’s important for the country and also the players.”

Uyo has been wet with heavy downpour and Friday’s game may be played under the same conditions, but Mikel maintained the Eagles will be ready to battle to get the maximum points under whatever conditions they encounter on the day.

“We have to play under whatever conditions, we have played in nice and also horrible conditions, we have played even when it’s snowing,” he said.

“The country should be behind and the fans should just come out and cheer us to victory.”
