Former international, Mobi Oparaku has come out with a stinging verdict that the technical handlers did not build a team heading to the tournament, as they just assembled players to compete.
Nigeria won two of her three group matches in the group stage of the tournament, before knocking out Cameroon and South Africa, but were beaten by Algeria in the semi-finals.
Speaking with brila.net, Oparaku also added that there was little or no cohesion amongst the players, while also expressing his displeasure concerning inviting too many players during qualifiers but not knowing the right players to select.
“We did not build our team, we just brought players from everywhere and brought them to compete for Nigeria. That is not a national team”.
“A national team has to have a team building, cohesion, which is understanding. If you don’t have an understanding and have not been playing together, how can you know what the problem is”.
“That is the problem. We bring players from everywhere during qualifiers. After the qualifiers, we don’t know who to pick and who not to pick”.
