Head coach of Nigeria’s men’s basketball team, Mohammed Abdulrahman, has heaped praise on his players after the D’Tigers sealed a 99-90 victory over Cameroon to close out their Group D campaign at the ongoing Afrobasket tournament in Angola.
The win handed Nigeria their third straight win, ensuring they finished top of the group and advanced directly to the quarterfinals without needing to go through the playoff round.
Speaking after the game, Abdulrahman said topping the group was always part of the team’s strategy.
“We were right where we want to be, because we didn’t want to go and play the quarterfinal playoff. We wanted to top the group, and that’s exactly what we did.”
“So, we have some extra days to rest.”
The coach also highlighted the importance of using the extra rest days to re-evaluate and sharpen the team’s play before the knockout phase.
“We’re going to sit back and take stock of, whatever we did the past three games, and then we’ll move on from there.”
“I’m so excited that we are right where we want to be, and that’s just it.”
With the huge advantage on their side, the D’Tigers will now look to build on their impressive un group stage performances as they prepare for the quarterfinal showdown.
