Wayne Rooney’s goal against Tottenham broke an embarrassing hoodoo for Manchester United against top six Premier League sides this season.
Some excellent work from Anthony Martial created a rare opening for United against Spurs and Rooney was on the end of a cross to make it 2-1 late in the second half.
Jan Vertonghen got the final touch on the ball, but Rooney’s effort did seem to be heading in regardless of the defender’s intervention.
The goal is the first away strike United have managed against a top six league side this season.
1 – Man Utd’s goal was the first scored by a Jose Mourinho side in eight away league games against the current PL top six. Awaited.

Jose Mourinho’s side have made eight trips to top six sides this season and have failed to find the net in any of those games.
It marks the end of a woeful run for United who look set to finish outside the top five this season and the Red Devils can no longer qualify for the Champions League after the 2-1 defeat.

The goal could still be taken away from Rooney should the football gods decide Vertonghen should be given the honour.
