Organizers have adjusted the opening group matches involving Nigeria at this year’s WAFU Cup with the Eagles now billed to take on Mali, and not hosts Ghana, Thursday afternoon.
A statement from the NFF stated yesterday that the match between Mali and Nigeria will now open Group A in Cape Coast by 4pmNigerian time Thursday.
It will be followed by the game between Ghana and Guinea.
From the new fixtures, Nigeria will play a second afternoon fixture against Guinea to be followed by Ghana up against Mali.
The final round of Group A matches will be played on Monday, September 18, with Nigeria battling home team Ghana, while Guinea square up against Mali.
Earlier in the tournament, Two late goals from Osas Okoro and Moses Peter gave the Super Eagles the win in the close game against Sierra leaone.
The Sierra Leonean dominated the game in the early minutes before the Super Eagles gradually got back into it.
The first half was keenly contested and ended goalless.
Nigeria had most of the ball in the second half and finally opened the deadlock in the 83rd minute through Okoro who bent a curved a free-kick over the Sierra Leonian defensive wall.
Peter doubled the Super Eagles lead in the 87th minute, drilling home an effort to seal Nigeria’s win.
The top two teams will advance to the knockout semi-finals of the sub-regional competition, which has been revived with new sponsors Fox Sports.
The final is fixed for Sunday, September 24.
