WAFCON: Don’t Blame My Players! Waldrum speaks after Nigeria’s SF defeat

Nigeria’s WNT head Coach Randy Waldrum has defended his team following Monday’s semi-final defeat to Morocco in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

The Falcons failed to advance to the final of the WAFCON for only the third time in the competitions history.

Waldrum’s side were held 1-1 after extra-time and had played for the most part with 9 players after both Halimatu Ayinde (48′) and Rasheedat Ajibade (71′) were sent off.

The Defending champions eventually lost 5-4 via penalties before record crowd at the Stade Prince Moulay Abdallah.

“We wanted to win the game, not just the World Cup ticket. Our substitutions were spot on and we can’t ask for more from the players, they gave their best,” Waldrum said in his post-match conference

“I am proud of the girls tonight, they gave everything and we can’t ask for more from them.”

The Super Falcons will now face Zambia in the losers finals, while Morocco and South Africa meet in the title decider.
