Former coach of Nigeria’s D’Tigers Williams Voight has stated that Nigeria should focus on grooming its own basketball players to ensure proper development of the game in the country rather than its current over-reliance on foreign-born players of Nigerian descent.
Voight speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said the major task of development is for the country to be able to groom its own talent from the grassroots and part of that is to also ensure the development of it professional basketball league which he says has been a major source of concern even when he was coach of Nigeria’s D’Tigers.
“To really establish a grassroots development and huge part of that is going to be the domestic pro-league and all your listeners know that’s been a huge struggle in Nigeria.
“Even though you have this huge difference in talents, Nigeria needs to get to the points where the talents can be grown within the country.”
