Kylian Mbappé and Neymar Jr., two of the most iconic players in Paris Saint-Germain’s modern era, have congratulated their former club after the French giants clinched their first UEFA Champions League title in record-breaking style on Saturday night.
PSG demolished Inter Milan 5-0 in Munich, delivering the biggest win margin ever recorded in a Champions League final to finally claim the coveted trophy that had long eluded them.
Mbappé: “The Big Day Has Finally Arrived”
Now a Real Madrid forward, Kylian Mbappé, who left PSG last summer, took to Instagram to salute the team he left behind just months ago.
“The big day has finally arrived. Victory and with the manner of a whole club. Congratulations, PSG.”
Mbappé, 26, spent six seasons at PSG, winning:
6x Ligue 1 titles
4x Coupe de France
2x Coupe de la Ligue
However, the Champions League always eluded him in Paris, with the closest attempt coming in 2020 when PSG lost to Bayern Munich in the final.
In contrast, his first season at Real Madrid ended in disappointment, with Los Blancos crashing out in the quarter-finals to Arsenal.
Despite the warm tribute, Mbappé’s relationship with PSG remains strained: he is suing the club over €55 million ($62 million) in allegedly unpaid wages.
Neymar: A Simple Tribute for a Monumental Moment
Brazilian forward Neymar, who joined Al-Hilal last year after six trophy-laden seasons in Paris, also posted a brief message:
“Congratulations PSG 👏👏👏👏👏”
The post included a clip of PSG captain Marquinhos lifting the trophy, who he shared the pitch with during PSG’s peak years.
Neymar scored 82 goals for PSG and was one of the first marquee names brought in under the club’s Qatari ownership, which invested heavily over the past decade in pursuit of European dominance.
The New Era Delivers What the “Galácticos” Could Not
PSG’s long-awaited Champions League title was not secured by the old guard of global superstars, but by a younger generation and shrewd signings under manager Luis Enrique.
Teenage sensation Désiré Doué, 18, was the star of the final:
2 goals
1 assist for Achraf Hakimi’s opener
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and 19-year-old Senny Mayulu also got on the scoresheet, completing a five-goal demolition of Inter Milan
