Victor Osimhen was once again the hero for Galatasaray, finding the back of the net to help his side secure a 2-1 victory over Besiktas in the highly anticipated Istanbul derby, on Monday night.
Continuing his impressive form in the Turkish Super Lig, Osimhen’s goal marked his fourth of the season, playing a crucial role in Galatasaray’s hard-fought win over their city rivals.
The home side dominated proceedings from the start and took the lead just 13 minutes into the game.
In the second half, Gabriel Sara delivered a perfect free-kick from the left flank, which Osimhen met with a stunning header to double Galatasaray’s advantage, making it 2-0.
Besiktas managed to pull one back in stoppage time with a late consolation goal, but it wasn’t enough to prevent Galatasaray from sealing the win at Rams Park.
Osimhen was substituted in the 82nd minute for Dries Mertens after a solid performance, recording four shots on target and completing 10 out of 14 passes.
Since joining Galatasaray on loan from Napoli, Osimhen had a slow start, failing to score in his first three matches.
However, he found his form after netting a brace against Kasimpasa, and he hasn’t looked back since. His tally now stands at four goals and four assists in seven appearances this season.
The victory keeps Galatasaray at the top of the Super Lig standings with 28 points from 10 matches, opening up a six-point gap over second-placed Samsunspor. Meanwhile, Besiktas remain in fourth place with 20 points.
