Napoli striker Victor Osimhen has yet to join Nigeria’s African Cup of Nations (AFCON) training camp, which commenced on Tuesday in Abu Dhabi.
Released by Napoli in December, Osimhen’s whereabouts have become a topic of discussion in Naples as he was spotted in nightclubs and a church but has not linked up with his national teammates.
The Nigeria Football Federation confirmed that nineteen out of the twenty-five invited players are already present at the training camp with the striker missing.
However, notable names like Francis Uzoho, William Troost-Ekong, Sadiq Umar, Alhassan Yusuf, and Kelechi Iheanacho are yet to report for duty.
Uzoho, who participated in Omonia Nicosia’s victory over Limassol on Tuesday, may join the camp later today. Alhassan Yusuf, a replacement for the injured Wilfred Ndidi, is also expected to report soon.
Kelechi Iheanacho’s participation in the tournament is uncertain due to an injury, making him a major doubt for the upcoming matches.
With the first match against Equatorial Guinea scheduled for Sunday, January 14, concerns are growing about the readiness of the Nigerian Super Eagles for the AFCON tournament.
