Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has opened up about his role as a leader in the team.
The Nigerian scored his 10th Serie A goal of the season in Napoli’s 2-0 win away to Sampdoria.
Napoli had started the year with a 1-0 defeat to Inter Milan at San Siro last Monday, but the victory over got them back on track.
“I want to say congratulations to the team, we deserved the win,” Osimhen told DAZN.
“It was not a good game against Inter Milan, it’s important we start well here. Sampdoria are a good side, we showed respect, we came here for the win and I am happy to contribute a goal for the team.
Luciano Spalletti recently praised the former 24 year-old for his leadership role on the pitch; communicating and motivation of his teammates on field.
“Someone has to stand up for the team and speak, we cannot always wait for it be captain Di Lorenzo, and the coach also gave us motivation we need. Anyone can stand up and speak for the team.
“Of course I have to motivate my teammates, just as they motivate me, we have to keep speaking to each other and keep going.”
Next for Osimhen and his Napoli teammates is another tough clash against resurgent Juventus at the Diego Maradona’s Stadium on Friday evening.
