Super Eagles interim head coach. Austin Eguavoen has expressed frustration over the absence of forward, Victor Osimhen, as the team prepares for its Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Libya.
Osimhen sustained a muscle injury during Galatasaray’s League match against Kasimpasa, and is expected to be sidelined for at least three weeks, ruling him out of the crucial games.
In a media briefing, Eguavoen acknowledged the significance of Osimhen’s injury, describing it as a considerable “setback” for the team.
“It’s a huge miss. We all know how important and impactful Osimhen can be, but we have other players who can do the job,” Eguavoen admitted. “He’s not here physically, but he’s with us spiritually.”
Osimhen played a pivotal role in the Super Eagles’ 3-0 victory over Benin Republic, scoring one of the goals as the team kicked off their 2025 AFCON qualifying campaign.
The upcoming matches against Libya will hold on 11th and 15th of October.
