In a shock reaction to links with Premier League interests and likely move next summer, Bayer Leverkusen forward Victor Boniface has expressed that he is not a fan of the EPL, revealing a preference for Spanish and German football.
This comes amidst speculation linking the 23 year-old striker to Premier League clubs, with Chelsea rumored to be interested.
Boniface has quickly established himself under the management of Xabi Alonso, playing a pivotal role in Bayer Leverkusen’s recent successes, including winning both the Bundesliga and the DFB-Pokal in his debut season.
Despite missing three months of action last season due to injury, which also ruled him out of the Africa Cup of Nations for the Super Eagles, Boniface still managed to deliver an impressive 21 goals and 10 assists across 34 appearances for Leverkusen in all competitions.
This season, Boniface has continued his fine form, scoring 4 goals and providing 1 assist in just 6 games.
While his performances have put him on the radar of several Premier League clubs, Boniface has made it clear that the EPL is not his preferred destination.
Speaking in an interview with SportyTV, he said:
“No. I admit I did an interview before and I’m not saying this just because I’m on this level.
“I’ve been saying this even before I had an international passport, even before I dreamt of coming to Europe, I don’t really like the Premier League.
“I said this before. I prefer Spanish football or German football.”
He further clarified that his preference doesn’t mean he would outright reject an opportunity in the EPL:
“I’m not saying if a great team comes for me, I won’t go. But if you ask me to pick two countries, I really want to live and play in Germany and Spain.”
