Super Eagles forward, Victor Boniface has expressed his disappointment after his 2024 CAF Men’s Player of the Year shortlist snub.
Boniface was notably absent from the list of 10 players nominated by CAF last month.
Among the contenders were his international teammates, Ademola Lookman and William Troost-Ekong.
Despite having an outstanding season with Bayer Leverkusen including an unbeaten run that saw the club win their first-ever Bundesliga title and a DFB Pokal win, Boniface did not make the cut.
“Of course based on what I did last season, I should be on the list, but I’m not stressing over it,” Boniface shared in an interview with Oluwashina Okeleji.
When asked who he would choose if given the chance to pick a winner, he picked ye man who ended Leverkusen’s unbeaten streak last season.
“Lookman, for sure, deserves it. If I were nominated, I’d pick myself — it’s normal.”
Boniface also touched on his public persona and what fans often misunderstand about him.
“The Boniface you see on social media is different from the one you meet in person. If we’re close, I’ll show you both sides. Forget what I post; I’m actually different,” he clarified.
Reflecting on his values, he added, “Football and family mean everything to me. I was raised by my grandmother, so I will always like to speak to her.”
