Update: NFF Faces Hurdle in Move for Herve Renard

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) is reportedly making moves to secure Hervé Renard as Super Eagles head coach.

Super Eagles have been without a coach since the resignation of Finidi George following a fallout with the NFF.

Renard is currently in charge of the France Women’s national team but has announced his intention to leave after the Olympic Games in Paris.

According to reports from FootMercato, the Frenchman has been offered a €2 million per year salary by both the Nigerian and Egyptian football associations.

BBS Sports journalist Oluwashina Okeleji had earlier debunked the reports, citing a top NFF official who confirmed that there had been no discussions with Renard to replace Finidi.

However, the latest information indicates that the NFF has now made contact with Renard, suggesting a potential shift from a home-based coach to a foreign-based one, despite budgetary concerns.

Colin Udoh, a former media officer for the Super Eagles, has hinted that the NFF might not be able to afford Renard.

Writing on X, Udoh said: “USSoccer is in talks with Hervé Renard about coaching USMNT. Renard is said to want a lucrative contract, as he also has offers from Saudi Arabian clubs. His contract with the France women’s team ends in August.

“With these two in the picture, he may be out of Nigeria’s price range.”
