Super Eagles midfielder, Raphael Onyedika experienced a frustrating night as he received the first straight red card of his career during Club Brugge’s 1-1 draw against Charleroi at the Stade de Pays de Charleroi.

The red card marks the third dismissal of Onyedika’s professional career, though his previous two were for double yellow cards.

Onyedika has had an impressive season under the guidance of Nick Hayen at Club Brugge and on Friday, he returned to the starting lineup for their Jupiler League clash against Charleroi.

The game started evenly, with a goalless first half. However, the match came to life in the second half. Charleroi broke the deadlock in the 48th minute through Parfait Guiagon.

Seven minutes later, in an attempt to win the ball, Onyedika was penalized for a dangerous, double-footed tackle.

The referee deemed it reckless and issued a straight red card, a decision later confirmed by VAR.

Despite being reduced to 10 men, Club Brugge adapted well. They fought back and managed to score a late equalizer, salvaging a 1-1 draw.

Onyedika’s suspension means he will miss Club Brugge’s next Jupiler League fixture against Royale Union SG.

His red card follows another Super Eagles star, Bright Osayi-Samuel, who was also sent off earlier this week while playing for Fenerbahçe in a UEFA Europa League match against Union St. Gilloise.

Club Brugge, the reigning Belgian champions, are now winless in three games across all competitions and face the risk of slipping down the Pro League standings as they prepare for their upcoming Champions League fixture against SK Sturm Graz.
