Nigeria’s Gift Monday stole the spotlight once again, delivering a goal and an assist to power Costa Adeje Tenerife to a commanding 2-0 victory against Madrid CFF in Spanish Liga F action on Saturday.
At the Football Field Adeje, Monday was instrumental in breaking the deadlock, delivering a precision assist for Maria Perez to slot home the opener which gave Tenerife the upper hand early in the match.
The second half saw Monday switch roles from creator to finisher. Just 11 minutes in, Perez returned the favor with a well-timed assist, and Monday clinically found the back of the net to score her eight goal of the season, doubling the lead and sealing the win.
Monday’s impact on the game was evident until the 82nd minute, when she was substituted to thunderous applause, making way for Belgium international Jassina Blom.
Her performance not only increased her goal tally but also brought her assists count to three for the season.
Unfortunately, compatriot Rinsola Babajide was not included in the matchday squad.
Costa Adeje Tenerife’s triumph keeps them firmly in sixth place on the Liga F standings with 23 points from 16 games, maintaining their push for European qualification.
The team’s next challenge comes on February 2, 2024, when they travel to face Sevilla FC.
