Union Saint-Gilloise boss Karel Geraerts proud of Victor Boniface

Union Saint-Gilloise boss, Karel Geraerts has hailed striker Victor Boniface following another fantastic performance in the Europa League.

Boniface scored as Union SG drew 1-1 against Bayer Leverkusen in the first-leg, quarter final tie at the Bay Arena on Thursday.

The Nigerian scored in the second half to put the visitors ahead, and it was his sixth goal in the competition this season.

“He is playing a top season. He has been playing at a very high level for months and has taken huge steps forward,” Sporza quotes Geraerts.

Karel Geraerts’ men even took the game to the Germans and we’re unlucky to not return to Belgium with a win.

However, Karel Geraert says he was satisfied with the team’s overall performance.

“There was a really nice atmosphere to start with with positive vibes coming from the stands.

“It was also great to see our legion, it’s the first time I’ve seen so many Union away supporters I think. You heard them too. Just like that of Leverkusen. I enjoyed it.”

“And the game itself was not boring either. It went up and down. To be fair: Leverkusen tried more and had the ball more.

“They play at home and are in very good shape. But I am proud of the boys. And not only the midfield, but also on the defenders and in front,” He concluded.
