Nigerian midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi is backing Ademola Lookman to voted unanimously for the CAF African Player of the Year award, insisting there is no close competition.
Lookman achieved recognition on the international stage, finishing 14th in the Ballon d’Or rankings.
Notably, he was the only African nominated, highlighting his exceptional performance over the past year.
With the CAF awards scheduled for December 16 in Marrakech, Morocco, Onazi believes the trophy is all but secured for Lookman.
Speaking to Brila.net, the 2013 AFCON winner emphasized that Lookman’s achievements deserve unparalleled recognition.
“Lookman is an amazing player. He is working hard, very dedicated and disciplined. I’m really happy about his achievement and being nominated (for Ballon d’Or) at that level,” Onazi shared.
“CAF should just arrange the trophy and keep it for him. Not because he is a Nigerian but because he is the best in Africa at the moment. He did incredibly well last season and he deserves every accolade.
Onazi added, “I will be really disappointed if he doesn’t win because there is no other thing to qualify why he shouldn’t win it.”
With Lookman’s outstanding contributions both in club and international football fans all over the world are eagerly anticipating CAF’s decision in December.
