Under Fire Everton boss Lampard fingers ‘Wasteful’ Alex Iwobi in defeat to Brighton

Everton boss Frank Lampard believes his side would have a chance to pick at least a point against Brighton, if Alex Iwobi had converted the early chance presented to him.

Iwobi had glorious chance to put the Toffees ahead just before the Seagulls broke the deadlock.

The midfielder was free in the box, but his tame effort was saved by the goalkeeper and shortly after Kaorum Mitoma broke the deadlock for Brighton.

Alex Iwobi later won a penalty when he was brought down by Robert Sanchez in the box, and Demarai Gray converted the resulting kick.

Speaking on the defeat, Lampard said the game would have gone a different direction had the Nigerian converted his great chance.

“Possession-wise [the game was] even. They hit the post and scored from our mistake.

“We had a good chance with Alex I wanted more urgency. I didn’t think there was much in it.”

Iwobi has just one goal for the struggling Everton. He last scored a goal October 9, 2022 against Manchester United at Goodison Park.
