Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Alloy Agu has stated that the omission of South Africa based goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi from the list of invited players for next month’s international friendly against Ukraine was simply to create openings for new hands.
Agu speaking in a chat with www.brila.net said Akpeyi still remain a member of the national team and said the technical crew had a resolve to try out new players and new goalkeeper as they bid to strengthen the senior national team of Nigeria.
He also revealed that newly invited goalkeeper Maduka Okoye is one that has been on the radar of Nigeria for a while.
“We’ve been monitoring Maduka for a while now, and he had an injury before and that was why he was not part of the team earlier. And now we know he has come back from the injury, he has recovered and also he is part of the game plan to see new hands, to bring new players and to make sure we fortify the team.”
“We are trying to look at players, not only goalkeeper but players and this is an opportunity it’s a friendly match. We are trying to see shat other things we can do better. Of course Akpeyi is still part of the team and we are also giving other people chance.”
