Udeze blasts Ajax for throwing away Champions League dream

Former Super Eagles defender Ifeanyi Udeze has blasted Ajax players for throwing away a 3-0 lead to Tottenham in their Champions League semi-final on Wednesday night.

Spurs produced a European miracle as Lucas Moura’s dramatic second-half hat-trick set up a stunning 3-2 win over Ajax – and an all-English final with Liverpool.

The Premier League club were dead and buried at half-time in the second leg at the Johan Cryuff ArenA as they trailed the Amsterdam team 2-0 on the night and 3-0 on aggregate after goals from Matthijs De Ligt and Hakim Ziyech.

However, a miraculous comeback, spearheaded by Moura, was completed deep into added time when the Brazilian slotted home a loose ball to seal an away goals success and spark amazing scenes in Amsterdam.

The former PAOK captain said he was shocked that the Dutch side somehow failed to book a final showdown with Liverpool.

He said: “I wasn’t really supporting Ajax, but I never expected them to throw away the 3-0 lead, learning from the Barcelona scenario,” Udeze said.
