Cyriel Dessers was a second half substitute as Rangers booked their place in the Champions League playoff, following their second leg draw against Servette, on Tuesday.

Dessers, who scored one of the goals in the 2-1 first-leg win, and his compatriot Leon Balogun were dropped from the starting XI for the game in Switzerland as coach Michael Beale made three changes from the team that played Livingston in the Scottish Premiership at the weekend.

Michael Beale brought back Connor Goldson, Ryan Jack and striker Danilo after they were rested on Saturday.

Danilo failed to justify his inclusion as he missed several goal scoring opportunities, after Servette had gone ahead through Dereck Kutesa’s glorious finish.

Rangers were much improved after the break after Beale took off the Brazilian for Dessers.

However it was James Tavanier who proved to be the game changer, when he headed in the equalizer, giving Rangers 3-2 lead on aggregate.

Substitute Dessers should have made the tie more comfortable, but he missed two good opportunities.

The Nigeria international headed over from close range, before hitting the post from eight yards after being set up by Todd Cantwell.

Rangers held on for a draw, advancing to the next phase with 3-2 aggregate victory.​

The result sets the Gers up for a repeat of last year’s play-off against PSV Eindhoven as the Scottish Premiership runners-up bid for a second consecutive campaign in the group stages.
