UCL: PSG trounce Real Madrid 3-0, heap more Pressure on Zidane

Angel di Maria produced a masterclass performance against his former side, Real Madrid as Paris St-Germain began their Champions League campaign with a comfortable 3-0 home win.

Di Maria netted a brace, as Le Parisien made most of their home advantage and delivered a performance to remember, dominating the 13-time winners from beginning to the end at the Parc de Princes on Wednesday.

Zidane handed Eden Hazard his first start for Real Madrid, but the former Chelsea forward struggled to stamp his authority in the game and failed to offer much in the attack for the visitors.

Di Maria who is making his 100th appearance in the competition, opened the scoring with a close-range shot that crept inside Thibaut Courtois’ near post after collecting a pass from Juan Bernat.

Thomas Tuchel’s side, who are without Neymar, Kylian Mbappe and Edison Cavani on the night, doubled their advantage once again Di Maria caught Courtois out of position to score his second of the night.

Real offered nothing, but when they thought of fighting back, Juan Bernat and Meunier combined as the Belgian full-back placed the ball into the bottom right corner for the third goal.

Real Madrid have now lost consecutive Champions League games for the first time since April 2013 under Jose Mourinho.

They also failed to register a single shot on target against PSG, the first time this has happened in the Champions League since the collection of data in the competition (in 167 games).

The Spanish side suffered their joint-heaviest defeat on the opening matchday of a group stage campaign in Champions League history (also 0-3 against Bayer Leverkusen in 2004 and 0-3 against Lyon in 2005).
