Getafe midfielder, Chrisantus Uche has rejected a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Both clubs had reached an agreement for the player at a fee of around £17-20 million.
He was set to travel to England for a medical, but the deal fell through during negotiations on personal terms as he was not interested in the move.
Getafe President Ángel Torres had confirmed earlier this week that Uche was set to depart the club. He said:
“We have to sell. We are ruining La Liga by continuously selling,” he stated.
“I am forced to sell him, I have no other choice. Tomorrow he undergoes the medical and the deal will be signed with Wolves.”
According to Nigerian transfer expert Buchi Laba, the player is not eager about a move to the Premier League.
AC Milan had also shown interest as they explored conditions to facilitate a transfer, but nothing concrete emerged.
Getafe manager José Bordalás will be relieved by Uche’s decision to turn down Wolves, as he never supported the player’s sale given he considers him a key part of the team.
However, despite Uche’s rejection of the Premier League side, Bordalás cannot be certain of the Nigerian’s long-term commitment to the club this summer.
Offers from other European clubs remain on the table, including from Como.
The Italian side has contacted Getafe to inquire about the terms required to sign Uche, and with only a few days left in the transfer window, further developments remain possible.
Uche was recently invited to Eric Chelle’s provisional squad for the World Cup qualifiers.
Securing a place in the final list would see the 22-year-old make his first competitive appearance for the Super Eagles.
