Team Nigeria’s Prestina Ochonogor secured a 5th place finish in the women’s Long Jump final at the ongoing World U20 Athletics Championships in Lima, Peru.
Ochonogor qualified to the finals with the second-best qualifying jump of 6.28m. However, she was unable to replicate that distance.
Her best attempt in the final was a 6.21m leap in the fifth round, which earned her the fifth spot. Unfortunately, most of her jumps were below 6.10m, with three falling short of the 6-meter mark.
Prestina Ochonogor made history as her performance is the best by a Nigerian female long jumper at the World U20 Championships since Esther Aghatise’s third-place finish in 2002.
Australia’s Delta Amidzovski claimed the gold with a personal best of 6.58m, while Sophie Beckmon of the USA (6.54m) and Poland’s Julia Adamczyk (6.34m) took silver and bronze, respectively.
