Nigeria’s Junior D’Tigress thrashed Zimbabwe in their second game,winning by a massive 77-point blowout (107-30), Thursday, at the 2024 FIBA U18 Afrobasket women’s tournament in South Africa.
Strong Bounce Back After Egypt Loss
After suffering a 72-60 defeat to Egypt in their opening match, the Nigerian girls made a powerful comeback, dominating Zimbabwe throughout the game.
They quickly took control, winning the first quarter 29-5 and extending their lead to 56-12 by halftime.

Nigeria’s dominance continued in the third quarter, where they widened the gap to 82-24 before finishing the game with an impressive 100-30 win.
The team left no room for Zimbabwe to challenge their lead.

Group Standings
With this win, Nigeria now sits at the top of the group standings, with Egypt and Zimbabwe in second and third places, respectively.
Path to Success
The Junior D’Tigress earned their spot in the tournament after successfully defeating Liberia and Côte d’Ivoire in the qualifiers held in Abidjan.
The team has previously reached the final rounds of the U18 championship twice, securing silver medals in 2008 and 2010.
After a long absence from the competition, Nigeria is eager to reclaim their place as one of the top teams in African women’s basketball.
