Nigeria exits the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup following a 2-0 defeat against the United States in their quarterfinal match held at Cibao Stadium in Santiago, on Saturday.
A goal in each half for the USA secured their victory, stifling Nigeria’s comeback attempts and sending them through to the semifinals.
The match began energetically with Nigeria creating big chances. In the 9th minute, Harmony Chidi’s long-range attempt sailed just over the bar.
Chidi tried again in the 28th minute, hitting the roof of the net, while Nigerian goalkeeper Uzoma thwarted a close-range attempt from the USA soon after.
The game turned in the 40th minute when VAR awarded the USA a penalty, following a foul by Nigeria’s Moshood.

The Flamingos managed to hold on, but the Americans doubled their lead in the 73rd minute, securing the win.
