Troost-Ekong Eyes Quick Return to Action

Super Eagles and PAOK Salonika CB William Troost-Ekong has shared a positive insight into his recovery from the surgery post 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Ekong sustained the injury during Nigeria’s group match against Ivory Coast. Despite the setback, he displayed resilience by continuing to play until the final match.

Following the conclusion of the competition, the 30 year-old underwent surgery in Finland and has since initiated his rehabilitation process.

The defender, expressed his hope to return to action before the conclusion of the season.

“I should be back and fit again in May, but I think it’s probably season over. You never know how rehab will go but I don’t want to rush it because, at my tender age of 30, you have to be smart about these injuries.

“I want to be 100% for next season, 100% right. If I can play at the end of this season that’s great, if not then I will be ready for next season,” he said.

He played six of Nigeria’s seven games at the Nations Cup, scoring three goals. He was named the best player of the tournament.
