In a shocking incident along the Ore-Benin expressway on Thursday, unknown gunmen targeted the bus of Nigeria Professional Football League side Sunshine Stars.

The attack resulted in a ball boy being shot, and several team members, including the manager, sustaining serious injuries.

Sunshine Stars reported the unfortunate event through a brief statement on their official social media handle.

The statement confirmed the involvement of suspected hoodlums in the assault, emphasizing the severity of the situation.

“Suspected Hoodlums Attack Sunshine Stars Team Bus Along Ore-Benin Expressway. Ball Boy Shot, Team Manager, and Others Seriously Injured,” the club conveyed in its concise message.

The team was slated to face Gombe United at the same venue over the weekend.

However, with the prevailing circumstances, the Nigeria Premier Football League is expected to postpone the upcoming match to allow the injured players and officials adequate time for recovery.
