In a harrowing incident in Brazil, 23-year-old amateur boxer Joao Victor Penha lost his life just three days after receiving a devastating knockout punch during a fight.

This heart-wrenching event occurred in Jijoca de Jericoacoara, northeastern Brazil, and the fight had a prize of just £16 for the winner.

Despite his family’s strong objections, Joao Victor took part in the bout, which was filmed by an onlooker and had a referee and safety mats present.

While he appeared to be in control for most of the fight, a straight punch to the chin knocked him out cold around 90 seconds into the match.

First-aiders attended to him on the scene, but his condition quickly deteriorated, and he was rushed to an emergency care unit, where he was diagnosed with cranioencephalic trauma.

Tragically, he was declared brain dead and subsequently suffered a cardiac arrest, leading to his untimely passing.

Joao Victor Penha, who worked as an HR manager at a local hotel, lived with his family in Jijoca de Jericoacoara.

Local authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident as Joao Victor’s family mourns the loss of their loved one.
