Trabzonspor Likely to Drop Onuachu Pursuit for Weghorst

Trabzonspor manager, Abdullah Avci has revealed that the club may not pursue a deal for Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu this summer, instead, the club is prioritizing the signing of Burnley’s Wout Weghorst.

Onuachu deal has been difficult to negotiate with Southampton after the completion of the Forward’s loan spell last season.

The Nigerian is, reportedly, also being chased by Saudi Pro-League side Al-Okhdood,

Meanwhile, Weghorst, who was a member of Beşiktaş’s squad in 2022–2023 before joining Manchester United, is thought to be a superior option for Trabzon.

“We could not get enough use out of Onuachu last season. He first went to the African Cup with the Nigerian National Team, then he suffered an injury. I do not want to face the same problems again. For this reason, Weghorst is a better fit for us. If we finalize his transfer, it would be a significant development for us,” Avci told the media.

These comments suggest Trabzonspor could be willing to drop the deal.
