Trabzonspor and Southampton at an Impasse Over Onuachu Transfer
44
Negotiations between Trabzonspor and Southampton for the transfer of Paul Onuachu remain at an impasse, according to Trabzonspor President Ertugul Dogan.
The Turkish club might consider alternative options if they fail to reach an agreement with Southampton.
Onuachu made a significant impact during his loan spell with Trabzonspor last season, netting 17 goals across all competitions.
The Forward has expressed a desire to stay, and his family is fond of the city, but financial terms are proving to be a stumbling block.
Trabzonspor is eager to secure Onuachu on a permanent basis but has not met Southampton’s valuation of at least €9 million.
Dogan indicated that the club is prepared to activate a backup plan if necessary.
“The process progresses positively, but if not, there is a plan B,” Dogan told Sports Witness UK. “Hopefully, we want to finish this work next week.”
Meanwhile, Southampton CEO Rasmus Andersen has made it clear that the club will only sell Onuachu for the right price.
The Saints invested £18 million to acquire Onuachu from Belgian Pro League side KRC Genk in January 2023.
“My phone rings every day when people want to talk about Onuachu,” Andersen told NTVSpor. “But if you want to buy a Ferrari, you cannot come up with Fiat money.”
