Midfielder Toni Payne celebrated her first victory with Everton Women after a thrilling 3-0 penalty shootout win against Newcastle in the Women’s League Cup on Wednesday.

The match ended 1-1 in regular time, with Emma Bissell’s second-half equalizer cancelling out Demi Stokes’ early goal for Newcastle.

The shootout victory handed Everton two points, moving them to second place in Group A behind Manchester United Women, who lead with three points.

Payne played the full 90 minutes, helping her team in a hard-fought match.

Goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan was the star of the shootout, saving all three of Newcastle’s penalties as Everton converted each of theirs.

Newcastle dominated the game from the early minutes of the game, but Everton held firm and found the equalizer through Bissell.

In the shootout, Brosnan’s heroics ensured Everton’s first win in the competition, giving Payne and her teammates momentum ahead of their next match against Chelsea Women.
