Toni Payne bags assist in Sevilla’s defeat to Oshoala’s Barcelona

Super Falcons midfielder Toni Payne featured for Sevilla in their Copa Del Reina quarter-final match with  Barcelona Femino on Wednesday.

Payne saw action for the entire match but was unable to save her from going down 1-4 to the league leaders.

Payne’s national team captain Asisat Oshoala didn’t feature in the match for Barcelona as she was not listed by coach Lluís Cortés.

Cristian Toro’s team started very well in the match and took the lead after 12 minutes on the clock.

Toni Payne found Claudia Pina after great work and Moncada footballer did well to beat Barcelona goalkeeper Cata Coll from close range.

The lead only lasted for 13 minutes as Barcelona equalized through Spanish star Mariano Caldentey.

A poor start to the second half saw Vicky Losada and Alexia Putellas scored two goals in three minutes after errors in defense to put Barcelona 1-3 ahead.

The Lluís Cortés killed any hope of Sevilla come back when Grahan Hansen netted the fourth for the Catalonians.

Barcelona has now advanced to the semi-final and their dream of winning the treble remains alive.

As for Sevilla FC, they will now turn their attention to the remaining matches in the Primera Iberdrola, starting with Sunday’s clash against RC Deportivo in field number 4 of the sports city.
