Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan, the reigning World 100m hurdles champion and record holder, has received approval to participate in the upcoming World Athletics Championships scheduled to commence in Budapest, Hungary.

Amusan had previously faced charges of three whereabouts failures, which involved missing tests within a 12-month span, constituting an anti-doping rule violation.

However, the Athletics Federation of Nigeria has confirmed that the Athletics Integrity Unit has cleared the Athlete to participate at the World Championships.

This development allows Amusan to defend her gold medal, which she secured at the last edition of the Championships.

Having successfully retained titles in various competitions, including Nigeria, African Championships, African Games, Commonwealth Games, and Diamond League, Amusan now has the opportunity to defend the only title left in her remarkable career.

A tribunal of three arbitrators reportedly found that Amusan had valid arguments for two of the missed tests, asserting that the tester had not adequately attempted to locate her. With this clearance, Amusan is poised to compete and continue her remarkable journey in athletics.

“A panel of the Disciplinary Tribunal, by majority decision, has today found that Tobi Amusan has not committed an Anti-Doping Rule Violation (ADRV) of three Whereabouts Failures within a 12-month period.”

“AIU Head Brett Clothier has indicated the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) is disappointed by this decision and will review the reasoning in detail before deciding whether to exercise its right of appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) within the applicable deadline,” the statement from Athletics Integrity Unit on Twitter read.
