Former D’Tigers captain, Skambo Morrison has expressed his dissatisfaction with the last minute preparatory approach of Nigeria sports to competitions ahead of the inaugural Basketball Africa League regular season scheduled for March, 2020.
Stating that the success achieved by the National teams, D’Tigers and D’Tigress can be seen in Nigerian basketball club sides, Skambo revealed that planning/preparation must improve “We don’t prepare well the way other countries do and that’s why we haven’t achieved as much as these countries, we like to gamble with a lot of things.”
In a chat with brila.net, Skambo said Nigeria’s performance in club competitions on the continent has been poor and gas questioned the readiness of Rivers Hoopers, Nigeria’s representative, following their qualification for the regular season last year after emerging champions of the President cup.
“The qualifications of Rivers Hoppers was not convincing in the first place and Nigerian basketball club sides on the continent have not done well apart from Kano pillars many years ago.
I’m not sure Rivers Hooper’s are coordinated, other teams have been preparing, but nobody is saying anything about their preparation.
Playing on the continent is a serious business and playing local teams alone will not be good preparation… NBA is involved and it’s an opportunity to show them creativity, class and quality but we must prepare better.” Skambo added
